Extend App Model Component Won't Install Until Next Weekly Update
The error The app can't be installed because an app component isn't available in the tenant. The app component will be installed with the next weekly update.
What it means
An Extend app with a Model component (a business object, business process, model task, or model report) promotes cleanly to one tenant but a second tenant shows this message on the App Manager tab and refuses to install it right away.
Troubleshooting
- Check whether the app was installed in this specific tenant before. An app only auto-updates in tenants where it was already installed; a tenant that never had the app installed needs an initial manual install first.
- Confirm whether the change being promoted touches a Model component (anything Workday's Dev Site labels with 'model': business objects, business processes, model tasks, model reports). These queue and only apply during the weekly service window.
- If the change is PMD-only (presentation layer, no Model component changes), it can promote immediately, but only if there are no other Model changes already queued for that tenant.
- Check the App Manager 'Ready to Install' list for a queued entry, that confirms the change is waiting on the weekly window rather than actually failing.
⚡ Quick fix
If the app is genuinely new to that tenant, install it there manually via App Manager instead of waiting for promotion to trigger an automatic update.
✓ Permanent fix
Install the app in every target tenant up front so future promotions auto-update rather than requiring a first-time manual install, and plan Model component changes around the weekly service window instead of expecting same-day promotion.
