REST Call Returns HTTP 529 Denying Traffic For Tenant

✓ Verified REST API 2 lookups
The error Denying traffic for tenant '2021' due to inability find Supervised Tenant State</error> com.capeclear.capeconnect.transport.BadRequestException: error from returned HTTP status: 529

What does "com.capeclear.capeconnect.transport.BadRequestException: error from returned HTTP status: 529" mean in Workday REST API?

The request reached Workday's edge but Workday could not work out which tenant to route it to, so it refused the traffic with a 529 before your credentials or payload were ever considered. The tell is that the tenant name Workday quotes back at you is usually not the tenant you meant, or is a fragment of the URL that landed in the tenant position by accident.

Quick fix

Log the fully resolved request URL immediately before the call and compare it against a working REST client request, looking specifically at the tenant segment and for a doubled or missing slash around it.

Permanent fix

Build the base URL and tenant once as a single configured value rather than concatenating them at each call site, so one review point covers every request. Where the URL is built dynamically, log the resolved URL on failure. A 529 says nothing useful without it, and the same integration will otherwise produce the same opaque error the next time an input changes shape.

Troubleshooting

  1. Read the tenant name inside the quotes in the error. If it is not your tenant, or looks like a year, an environment label, or a stray path segment, your URL is malformed and Workday is parsing the wrong part of it as the tenant.
  2. Print the fully resolved URL right before the call rather than reading the configured value. If the URL is assembled from variables or an expression, the resolved result is often not what the configuration looks like.
  3. Compare that resolved URL character by character against a call you know works from a REST client. Pay particular attention to a doubled or missing slash around the tenant segment, since that is enough to shift which segment Workday treats as the tenant.
  4. Check the host. A call aimed at the wrong regional host or at a general api host without the tenant in the expected position produces this even when the path looks right.
  5. Check the username you are authenticating with. Workday expects the account and tenant together, and an account sent without its tenant suffix can leave Workday with no tenant to resolve.
  6. If the URL and credentials are both confirmed good, try the same call from a REST client at the same moment. If that also fails, the tenant may genuinely be offline or mid-refresh, and this becomes a wait rather than a fix.
