PECI Fails With Multiple Summary DIS Documents When Runs Are Chained

✓ Verified PECI / PICOF 1 lookups
The error The following unexpected error has occurred: Multiple Payroll Effective Change Interface - Summary DIS documents found! Should only be one!

What does "The following unexpected error has occurred: Multiple" mean in Workday PECI?

Each PECI run produces one Summary Data Initialization Service document. When a second PECI is launched from the business process of the first, more than one of those summary documents exists by the time the second run reads them, and the step expects to find exactly one.

Quick fix

Stop launching the second PECI from the first PECI's business process, and run the affected PECI on its own so only one Summary DIS document is in play.

Permanent fix

Control the sequencing outside the business process. For sequential runs, have a Studio integration call Launch_Integration for the next PECI and let the final one collate the intermediate results. For concurrent runs, have a Studio wait on a message queue or poll Get_Integration_Events to confirm every PECI has finished before consolidating. Chaining off the business process couples the runs in a way the summary step does not expect.

Troubleshooting

  1. Confirm how the failing PECI is triggered. This error follows chaining a PECI off the business process of another PECI.
  2. Count the pay groups in scope. Splitting pay groups to stay under the 15,000 payee limit is the usual reason more than one PECI exists in the first place.
  3. Check the integration events for the earlier PECI run and confirm whether its Summary DIS document is still present when the second run starts.
  4. Establish whether the runs are meant to be sequential or concurrent, since the two need different handling.
