Payroll Interface Extract Fails Without a Subsequent Pay Period

✓ Verified PECI / PICOF 4 lookups
The error The following unexpected error has occurred: Payroll extract cannot be performed unless the Current Payroll Period(Payperiodstartdate, payperiodenddate)has a Subsequent Pay Period.

What does "The following unexpected error has occurred: Payroll extract" mean in Workday PECI?

The extract needs the pay period after the one it is running for to already exist on the period schedule. Workday bounds the extract window using the current period and the one that follows it, so when the schedule has not been generated far enough forward there is nothing to bound against and the run stops.

Quick fix

Generate the next pay period on the period schedule for the affected pay group, then relaunch the integration.

Permanent fix

Generate period schedules well beyond the current period, typically at least a full year ahead, and set a reminder before the existing schedule runs out. This error recurs every time a schedule is allowed to end at the period being processed, so the durable fix is schedule maintenance rather than any change to the integration itself.

Troubleshooting

  1. Note which pay period the integration is running for, from the integration event or the launch parameters.
  2. Open the Period Schedule attached to the affected pay group and list its generated periods.
  3. Confirm a period exists immediately after the one being run, and also one immediately before it. Both neighbours are expected, not only the following one.
  4. If the schedule stops at the period being processed, that is the cause. Check whether it was only ever generated to the end of the current year.
